Food donations are needed at the Glendale Salvation Army’s food pantry for the holiday season.
According to Rick White, head of the food pantry and director of social services, donations are down from a year ago.
“With the way the economy is, I think people are cutting back in all areas, including food donations,” White said.
The Glendale Police Dept., John Marshall Elementary School, the National Charity League, and the Boy Scouts are each running separate food drives to donate to the Salvation Army. Crescenta Valley Insurance has also launched a campaign to benefit the Salvation Army through their Facebook site. Details are available at www.cvigiveaway.com.
Non-perishable food items, such as canned goods, pasta, and beans are currently being accepted at the Salvation Army.
White hopes to get enough food during the holidays to last until May 2013.
“Every little bit helps. Every little bit makes a difference,” White said. “It all adds up.”
If everyone in the community were to each bring one bag of food, we could definitely reach our goal, he added.
Anyone who would like to drop off food at the Salvation Army, the address is 320 West Windsor Road in Glendale, on the corner of Windsor and Central.
