The Relay for Life of the Foothills officially had its kickoff Friday at Ocean View Boulevard and Honolulu Avenue in Montrose.
Relay for Life of the Foothills is sponsored by the American Cancer Society and will be held May5-6, 2018 at Clark Magnet High School. That might seem far off in the future but, with busy lives, Relay will be here before anyone knows it.
Traditionally the Foothill event is 24 hours long; however, last year it was changed to 12 hours, a change many in the community did not embrace, so now it is back to 24 hours.
“Because cancer never sleeps and neither do we,” said Molly Shelton, Relay for Life of the Foothills chair.
Relay for Life of the Foothills is reaching out to the community to create teams and help support research and awareness. The teams pitch their booths, and tents, at the Clark Magnet High School field and, for 24 hours, everyone’s focus is on raising cancer awareness. Those who have been diagnosed and those who are survivors, those where are or were caregivers and those who just care will all walk the field together.
Anyone who would like to start up a team or would like more information can contact Molly Shelton at relayforlifeofthefoothills@gmail.com.
