The residents of Upper Canyonside Road in the Briggs Terrace area of La Crescenta have rallied once again to get the word out about fire safety preparedness. Following their neighborhood clean-up day in August that was part of a commemoration of the 2009 Station Fire, the group has met each month to plan fire safety projects and continue the “neighbor helping neighbor” theme.  Their most recent efforts are focused on a joint meeting with the Crescenta Valley Fire Safe Council that will be held on Nov. 22 at 7:00 p.m. in the Rosemont Middle School auditorium. The purpose of the meeting is to educate all Briggs Terrace residents about reducing the risk of hazards that still exist due to high winds, overgrowth of trees and shrubs, and limited ingress and egress of the area.

The guest speaker for the event will be Jay Lopez, Los Angeles County Fire Department, who will talk about the unique conditions in the area that raise the level of concern regarding fire.  He will also discuss practical ways residents can make their homes safer. He and Roger Young, Crescenta Valley Fire Safe Council president, will be available to answer questions following the presentation.

The residents of Upper Canyonside Road will also be available to share information on
how to mobilize resources and “lessons learned” from their
experience working together to reduce the risk of fire on their street.

Although the focus of the discussion will be the Briggs Terrace area, residents from other La Crescenta neighborhoods are invited to attend.
