Power outage in La Cañada

Los Angeles County Fire and Southern California Edison responded to a power outage in La Cañada about 7 p.m. on Saturday.

The trouble originated from an underground electric vault affecting the Barley Flats circuit at the La Cañada substation, said Dave Ford, So. Cal Edison spokesman.

“There was a fire in the vault.  We don’t know the cause yet,” Ford said.

Edison had “troublemen” out immediately to fix the problem. The outage affected about 3,000 homes and by 10:20 p.m. all but 180 had their power restored.  Crews continued to work through the night.

At the vault’s location earlier in the evening smoke could be seen coming from just below the street’s surface on Crown Avenue at Foothill Boulevard.
