On Tuesday Glendale police confirmed that the man who apparently committed suicide by walking into the path of a train in Glendale was linked to an ongoing investigation concerning the stabbing of a woman during a domestic dispute in Crescenta Valley.
It began on Sunday about 5:40 p.m. when a passerby in the 3700 block of Mayfield Avenue contacted the GPD concerning a woman in distress on the street. When officers arrived they discovered a woman in her 50s on the street with a significant knife wound to her throat, said Sgt. Robert William, spokesman for GPD.
The first officers on the scene rendered medical aid until the victim was transported to a hospital where she underwent emergency surgery, according to a GPD statement.
It was determined that night the victim’s estranged husband, 57, was a suspect. Detectives began to actively search for the husband.
“For the last few months, the [couple] was separated and the suspect was living out of his car,” William said.
The investigation into the stabbing continued throughout the night, then just before noon on Tuesday Glendale police and fire departments responded to a call concerning a pedestrian who was stuck by an Amtrak train at Doran Street and San Fernando Road in Glendale.
“Officers found a deceased [adult] male,” William said at the time of the investigation.
It was later discovered that the deceased man was the suspect police had been looking for concerning the Crescenta Valley stabbing.
“The death of [the man] has not been officially ruled as a suicide by the Coroner’s Office; however, police are deeming it as a suicide due to the multiple witness accounts,” William said. “According to witnesses and the conductor [the man] approached on foot and ran in front of the train.”
William said there had been calls of domestic violence concerning the victim and suspect in the past and the man had one prior arrest for domestic violence.
The victim is now in stable condition.
