A Wild Day in the Crescenta Valley

By Mary O’KEEFE

The man who allegedly robbed the Wells Fargo Bank in the 2400 block of Honolulu Avenue on Tuesday may have been the same man who committed two other robberies in Glendale and Burbank on Monday.

A transient, Raul Gutierrez, 31, was arrested Tuesday by Glendale police after he was found hiding in a Montrose neighborhood.

A call came out at 2:50 p.m. to GPD from inside Wells Fargo Bank concerning a robbery in progress. Glendale police officers were nearby. The suspect ran out of the bank and into the nearby neighborhoods. The area was immediately contained as GPD searched for the suspect. He was found and arrested a short time later in the 1400 block of Broadview.

A short while later, in an unrelated incident, a high-speed vehicle pursuit by Los Angeles Police Dept. that began in Highland Park traveled through the Crescenta Valley. The vehicle was traveling southbound on La Crescenta Avenue at a high rate of speed and made a right turn onto Montrose Avenue nearly slamming into the curb on the south side of the street. It then continued west on Montrose Avenue to Pennsylvania Avenue where the vehicle turned left, traveling south. At La Crescenta Avenue, it made a right turn to continue southbound. Several police units were in pursuit.

The vehicle was occupied by two robbery suspects. It continued into Los Angeles where the pursuit ended in Echo Park after the driver lost control and crashed into two vehicles and then into a bus stop at Sunset Boulevard and Logan Street in Echo Park.

Both suspects were arrested.
