A 20-foot Christmas tree, provided by Ron Smith Trees, is in place at the La Crescenta Library, 2809 Foothill Blvd., ready for tonight’s (Thursday’s) tree lighting ceremony. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with cookies and hot chocolate, games, music and magicians. The ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. Festivities include performances by local elementary school choirs and presentations to outgoing supervisor Michael Antonovich. The number 2 lane on Foothill Boulevard from Raymond Avenue to Dyer Street will be closed from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. for the event. Traffic will be extremely heavy.
