The 41st Annual Montrose Christmas Parade has come and gone and everyone seemed to have had a great time.
The small town parade is a family favorite with many watching their children walk down Honolulu Avenue just like they did when they were kids. The weather was perfect, not too cold, not too hot, and definitely not too windy.
There were equestrians and classic cars along with a lot of organizations like the over 700 Boy Scouts who waved and smiled their way down the parade route.
Longtime parade commentators Rick Dinger and Jane Kane kept the audience who viewed the parade on GTV6 informed of who was strolling by.
A personal walk was made by Prom Plus Club, who normally spend their time volunteering behind the scenes. But this year they stepped out to honor one of their own. They walked in memory of Brett Tyler, a junior at CalPoly San Luis Obispo and a Crescenta Valley High School graduate who passed away a few weeks ago when a small blood clot passed in the artery leading to his heart.
“Prom Plus Club is walking this year in remembrance of a student who helped to define the purpose of the Club,” stated Molly Shelton, co-founder of Prom Plus Club and now its mentor.
Brett was the master of puns, so Prom Plus Club, along with Boy Scouts and members of CVHS Speech and Debate, joined the walk, all carrying puns in his honor.
“He touched countless lives in our area and beyond; so to celebrate the life of a friend, who was a friend to so many, Prom Plus Club, CV Speech and Debate Team, and Boy Scout Troop 319 are walking together to share some of the happiness that he shared with all of them. And what better way than through some extremely tacky puns,” stated Shelton.
