Some residents in La Crescenta, Montrose and La Cañada have received letters from Southern California Edison concerning maintenance interruption of power.
According to David Song, SCE spokesman, just because one home on a street receives the notice does not mean the neighboring homes will be affected. It may be maintenance to one pole and would not impact the entire neighborhood.
The electricity disruption is for upgrades and repairs of the system as SCE expands voltage capacity for the area.
Last week’s windstorms did not affect SCE service too much with no reports of long-term outages, unlike a powerful windstorm in November 2011 that caused many SCE customers to be without electricity for weeks. The winds did down several trees in the area with one crushing a garage and vehicles. Wind gusts up to 35 mph caused a tree to topple in the 2300 block of Honolulu Avenue in the Montrose Shopping Park.
“The way the tree fell (did) not [do] much to impede traffic,” said Dale Dawson, Montrose Shopping Park Assn. business administrator. “But it is a sad situation because it was a big beautiful tree.”
In La Cañada, one woman’s carport and vehicles were damaged when a tree fell on it. At Roselawn and La Crescenta Avenue Glendale police were on scene to oversee traffic after a large tree fell into traffic lanes. On Community Avenue near Cloud Avenue a transformer was reportedly arcing; Southern California Edison responded. Vehicular and foot traffic had been rerouted, affecting Crescenta Valley High School and La Crescenta Elementary.
At Crescenta Valley Park, a pole near the dog park blew over; the park director was notified.
No injuries due to falling trees were reported.
