GCC Holds Annual Performances
The annual Glendale Community College Faculty/Alumni Dance production will be held over three days with four performances on the Auditorium Mainstage beginning Friday, Dec. 14.
Performances are on Dec. 14 at 8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 16 at 2 p.m. Admission is free. Seating is on a first come basis. Early arrival is advised. Children under five years old are not admitted.
Dancers in the show include students enrolled in Jazz Performance Skills class in the GCC dance program and from the Henna and Dates Dance Theater and Blackbird Dance Company.
The choreography is by faculty, students, alumni and guests.
Also, the Glendale Community College Concert Singers will give their annual holiday performance on Sunday, Dec. 16 at 4 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, located at 1300 E. Colorado St. in Glendale.
Music professor Dr. Peter Green is director of the Concert Singers, an advanced choral group at the college. The program will include “Mid-Winter Songs” by composer Morten Lauridsen and holiday favorites.
General admission is $10 and $7 for students and seniors.

Nominees Sought for Commission
The City of Glendale Commission on the Status of Women is accepting nominations for outstanding women from the community who will be honored at the Ninth Annual Jewels of Glendale Award Luncheon on Thursday, May 9 at the Oakmont Country Club.
Jewels of Glendale: Women of Courage Award recognize women who work, live, or study in Glendale that have overcome obstacles, serve as role models in the community, and demonstrate exceptional strength, courage, and perseverance.
The Commission is also seeking nominations for the 2013 Gem of Glendale Award. This award is a $1,000 scholarship that will be awarded to one outstanding student (male or female) who is engaged in community service that benefits women and/or girls, and reflects the core values and mission of the Commission on the Status of Women.
Nomination forms for each award are available on the commission’s website at www.ci.glendale.ca.us/women. The deadline for nominations is Feb. 1 at 5 p.m.

Antonovich Receives Award
Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors was the recipient of the 2012 American Public Works Association, Southern California Chapter, Elected Official of the Year award honoring his leadership and commitment to public works.
Antonovich was recognized for his accomplishments in areas such as traffic signal synchronization, water conservation and the Rosemead Boulevard Beautification Project. Antonovich was also recognized for his work as chairman of the Los Angeles County Transportation Authority and his commitment to a regional transportation solution that encompasses the entire county.
