MSR Responding to Body Recovery

UPDATE 7:55 p.m. :

Montrose Search and Rescue was assisted by Los Angeles County Fire as well as  LA County Sheriff’s Air 5 whose team extracted the man’s body from the area.

UPDATE Saturday 5:30 p.m.:

“We were told that a cyclist [discovered] the man’s [body],” said Janet Henderson, Montrose Search and Rescue member.

There is a trail above the area where the man was found but it was not clear if he had fallen from the upper trail or had attempted to climb up from the bottom of the debris basin and had fallen. The man looked to be in his 20s, Henderson said.

Los Angeles County paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s office has listed the man as a “John Doe.”

There was no identification on the body, Henderson said.

UPDATE Saturday 5 p.m.:

Montrose Search and Rescue recovered the body of a man in Gould Mesa in the Angeles National Forest. The call came into the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station about 7:50 a.m. from a hiker who had discovered the body.

MSR was assisted by Los Angeles County Fire Air 14 and Los Angeles County Fire paramedics with the recovery, said Lt. Edwards.

The man’s identity or the cause of the death was not released.

Montrose Search and Rescue and Los Angeles County Sheriffs from Crescenta Valley Station are responding to the Gould Mesa in the Angeles National Forest regarding the body of a deceased person found in the area.

A call came in from a hiker that the body was found, said Dep. Rodger Burt.

The team is presently responding to the incident. There is no information regarding the identity of the person  or how the event occurred.

Gould Mesa is a popular hiking area above Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
