July 24, 1959 – Dec. 8, 2016

Timothy J. King of Huntington Beach passed away unexpectedly on Dec. 8 at his home. He was 57. Born July 24, 1959, Tim was a beloved community member.

An avid golfer and mariner, Tim was a member of the Old Ranch Country Club and the Long Beach Yacht Club. Born in Utah but raised in La Cañada Flintridge, he attended Saint Francis High School in La Cañada. After high school, Tim went on to college at UC Santa Barbara and graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree in business economics.

Tim was well known locally for his community dealings and his long time tenure as vice president and chief financial officer with the Bixby Ranch Company. Tim began work for Bixby Ranch in 1983 and continued his work there until 2009 when he led the company through a voluntary divestiture of all assets and subsidiary entities, ending in 2008 with final liquidation and dissolution. After leaving Bixby Ranch, he spent a number of years with the Robert Mayer Corporation as its CFO, but most recently was working as a private individual/small business CFO since February 2015.

Known for his generosity and community spirit, he played a key role in the Grand Prix Foundation charity. Tim became a member of the board of directors at the Grand Prix Foundation shortly after its founding, first serving as director, then later assuming the role of treasurer in 2003, a position he held until his passing. He was instrumental in securing the Old Ranch Country Club as the venue for the Foundation’s annual golf tournament and assisted with tournament operations for many years.

Tim was dedicated most to the ones he loved. He always went out of his way to make sure that family was taken care of with his compassionate heart and generous nature.

He is survived by his mother Elsie; sisters Sheryl and Christine; sister-in-law Elizabeth; nephews Cory and Christopher; girlfriend Debra; and countless dear friends. A memorial service for Tim will be held on Saturday, Jan. 7 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Long Beach Yacht Club, 6201 E. Appian Way in Long Beach. For information call (562) 598-9401.
