Nov. 9, 1944 – March 22, 2020
Carol Ann Wood, age 75, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 22 at her home in Sunland after being diagnosed three weeks prior with pancreatic cancer.
Carol was born in Rapid City, South Dakota on Nov. 9, 1944, two years to the day after her sister Karen was born. She was the daughter of Edward and Eleanor (Haydu) Masyczek and a graduate of Tustin High School. On June 6, 1964 Carol married John (Jack) Wood and they shared more than 50 years of marriage together.
Carol will be remembered as an excellent cook, devout listener to anyone’s problems and the most patient soul you could ever meet. She was a selfless and devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, friend, neighbor and aide to special education students. Carol would always put the needs of others before her own, and she loved nothing more than to cook up a feast and feed everyone. More than anything, Carol loved and adored her grandchildren, spoiling them at every opportunity. She will be incredibly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Carol is survived by her three children: Jay Wood (John), Michele (Scott) Ponder, and Marc (Amy) Wood; grandchildren Christopher, Caleb, Dakota, Carter and Kyle; siblings Karen (Eddie) Boyer, Robert (Robin) Masyczek, Richard (Tori) Masyczek; many extended Masyczek and Wood family members; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
A public celebration to honor and celebrate Carol’s life will be scheduled once the CDC regulations have been lifted. In lieu of flowers, the family is establishing a scholarship/memorial fund for the Special Education Dept. at Paradise Canyon Elementary where Carol worked for 30-plus years. Further information will follow.
