June 27, 1931 – April 10, 2024
Marilyn Ann Neuharth Cable of La Crescenta, a vibrant soul who graced this world for 92 years, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 10 in La Crescenta. Born to Phillip and Emma Neuharth on June 27, 1931 on the cold and windy plains of Bismark, North Dakota, she moved west with her family to the dry heat of Lancaster, California in 1951 where her father Phillip managed the JCPenney store.
Marilyn is survived by her husband Bob, with whom she shared 68 years of marriage. Marilyn and Bob met across a chess board at a college chess club. Family lore says she pretended to sprain her ankle allowing Bob to carry her home. They married on May 8, 1955 and settled in La Crescenta.
Marilyn and Bob hosted many lively parties and events surrounded by good friends, food and family. Marilyn loved sailing, dancing, drumming, t’ai chi, dogs (small, furry and the louder the better), Greek music (also the louder the better), good parties (loud is good), her volunteer work (not loud but definitely good), a family card game, a fresh cup of coffee and supporting her community. She was a devoted member of The Kiwanis Club of La Cañada La Crescenta AM for over 30 years.
Her colorful wardrobe reflected her lively personality. Marilyn’s legacy lies in the simple pleasures she cherished – a life well-lived.
Marilyn is survived by her three children: Jane Schmidt (Terry) of Mansfield Texas, Hillarie Dickinson (Ken) of La Crescenta, and Colin Cable of La Crescenta. The laughter and support of her four grandchildren – Cary, Melissa, Kyle and Jay – brought joy to her life.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents Phillip Neuharth and Emma Lasher Neuharth, and her sister Mavis Neuharth Schmid.
Rest in peace, Marilyn. Your spirit lives on in our hearts.
A celebration of life is planned for May 5 at the home of her son Colin Cable. Further details will be provided soon.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Pasadena Humane would be a fitting tribute to Marilyn’s compassionate spirit.
