Dawn Ion Skinner Boerner was born in Belleville, Michigan on Dec. 26, 1952. She graduated from Clear Creek Secondary School, Idaho Springs, Colorado in 1971 and attended University of Colorado and received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a masters in radiation physics from Colorado State University.
She is survived by three sisters: Lynne Laviolette of Las Vegas, Nevada, Mellodee Phillips of Denver, Colorado and Holly Slegl Grand Junction, Colorado; two brothers Kevin Ion and Wayne Ion, both of Las Vegas, Nevada; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dawn was observatory manager at JPL and recently launched the Orbiting Carbon Observator on July 1, 2014. Her hobbies were traveling to Hawaii and vegetable gardening. She and her husband resided in La Crescenta.
