Dec. 12, 1929 – June 4, 2022
Do you remember the lady who, for decades, would walk on Foothill Boulevard? Do you remember the lady who for many years gave away samples at Ralphs Grocery Store in La Crescenta? Those two ladies were the same person!
Fairy Elizabeth Darthula Davis Brown, 92 years old, was born Dec. 12, 1929 in Three Hills, Alberta, Canada. She passed away on June 4 in Pasadena. The Crescenta Valley was her home from 1977 until she had to go into a nursing home due to suffering from dementia/Alzheimer’s disease and following a broken hip in 2020. She was ready to go to her heavenly home and passed while sleeping peacefully with little pain.
Her love of walking and “visiting” with everyone and anyone followed her from Alberta to the Yukon, from Chicago to San Antonio, from Germany back to Texas, and then to the states of Washington and California. She cared for many children over the years in children’s homes in the Yukon and Chicago. She loved roses, tea parties and coffee – lots of coffee. She cared for people and there wasn’t a person whom she did not try to encourage.
Known in Canada as Fairy (her grandmother’s name) and in California as Darthula (her great-grandmother’s name), she was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, one sister and their spouses. Darthula is survived by her husband Jerry Brown (separated); only daughter Grace (Dan) Andrus (Wyoming); four adult grandchildren – Dan Andrus II (Czech Republic/Wyoming), Amanda Andrus (Montana), Candace (Marcus) Auge (Georgia), and Maggy Andrus (Florida); sister Patsy Ward (Three Hills); brother Jim Davis (Sundre); and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Her memorial “celebration of life” service will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 24 at Community Life Church, 4441 La Crescenta Ave. in La Crescenta where she attended since the late ’70s.
Ladies are invited to wear tea hats if they would like. Black is not required to be worn as this will be a celebration.
