Robert (Bob) Randall passed away peacefully at the beautiful Twelve Oaks Retirement Home in La Crescenta on May 10 where he lived for the past two years under the loving care of Denise Gotto – managing director, M.J. – nursing director, and the entire support staff that helps make Twelve Oaks a personal experience for all residents that have been fortunate to have found a place like home and are treated like family members.

Bob was able to celebrate his 84^th birthday just a few days before passing with friends and family, including his son David and wife Jean, his daughter Trish and husband Mike and his grandchildren James, Kylie, Gillian and Maddy.

Bob graduated from Glendale High School class of 1958 where he was a member of the social club The Sheiks. On graduation he joined the 101^st Airborne Division and took part in over 20 jumps. Afterward he married Sue Watson, a graduate of Holy Family Girls Catholic School in Glendale.

His business was as an LA Times paper distributer – with many young neighborhood boys under him. He opened a gym in the original Ebmeyer’s Bakery at 2287 Honolulu Ave. in Montrose and ran it while continuing to build his 6’3” frame with 18-inch biceps and upper body definition.

He then elected to sell the gym and started a limousine service with Cadillac and Lincoln town cars and acted as a bodyguard for many famous celebrities while transporting them. He even landed a bodyguard gig at the famous Playboy Mansion for Hugh Hefner. He had lots of stories!

Bob lived a full and busy life. Sue passed before him and he was able to pay for a good retirement at the “Oaks” while leaving his children a nice inheritance. His family, cousins Fletcher and Jane Miller (professors at San Diego State University), and his many friends will remember him fondly as an Arnold Schwarzenegger-type with a handlebar mustache. As a prolific reader of history with a sharp mind, Bob was an interesting man to be in the company of. One of his clients (Frank Sinatra) fittingly said, “The best is yet to come.” May the best be with you until we meet again.
