Johannes Steur

April 21,1946 – June 18, 2021

Johannes “Joe” Steur left us on June 18, 2021. He was born in Amsterdam, Holland. In 1956, he emigrated with his family to Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1960, the family moved to Glendale.

Joe graduated from Herbert Hoover High in 1965. Joe was an excellent hairstylist. He started his hair salon, “Steur Salon for Hair,” on Brand Boulevard in Glendale. The salon moved to Ocean View Boulevard in Montrose in 1990. The love of his life was Susan Lehman.

Joe and Susan were married on Feb. 14, 1987, made their home in La Cañada, and raised their daughter Amy Steur Fonder.

Joe’s life was centered on his family and friends. He worked with his brother Peter Jr., his father Peter Sr., and his wife Susan. He performed at hair shows with his brother Robert and nephew Eric. He was close to his mother Cory and mother-in-law Julie. He had a particularly close bond with his nephews Chad and Peter III.

Joe and Susan had many wonderful clients who they also counted as friends. If you ever spent any time with Joe and Susan, they often spoke fondly of their friends David and Stephanie Banta, Jane Leggett, and Lucio and Rosa.

Joe is survived by his spouse Susan, his brothers Robert and Peter Jr., his daughter Amy Steur Fonder, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Joe loved life. He was a doer. His energy was infectious and his outlook on life positive. He was generous to a fault. If you needed anything, Joe had your back. He was always thinking of others, and making those in his life feel special. In truth, Joe was the special one.

There is a sign at their beach house that reads, “If you’re lucky enough to be at the beach, you’re lucky enough.” If you were lucky enough to have Joe in your life, you were truly blessed. He will be missed.
