Raymond Joseph Martin, Sr. was born on Sept. 19, 1927 in New York City.
He passed away due to complications from Parkinson’s on July 9.
Ray was a World War Two Naval veteran and a sales executive. He was a resident of Glendale for over 45 years.
Friends and family will miss his humor and generous spirit. He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather and as a charming and witty storyteller.
He was a longtime member of the Santa Anita Turf Club. Ray also enjoyed coaching local baseball, softball, football and basketball teams.
Ray is survived by his wife Shirley of 54 years, son Raymond and daughters Lauren Culp (Joseph), Linda Spelta (William) and Lesley Smith (Brad).
He has nine surviving grandchildren: Ryan, Nicholas, Jackson, Chandler, Sedona, Isabelle, Kieran, Payton and Slater. He is also survived by his sister Joan Graff (Herb) of New York City and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial Mass will be held Monday, July 16 at 9 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montrose.
