Judy K. Morey

March 17, 1947 – March 23, 2022

Judy K. Morey, 75, daughter of the late John Edward and Wilma Walker Strough, was born and raised in Los Angeles and graduated from John Marshall High School in 1965.

She lived her entire life in the Los Angeles/Foothills area, marrying her high school sweetheart Stephen Gary Morey on April 30, 1966, and raising two sons: Bryan Matthew Morey and Gary Michael Morey (deceased).

Judy was a people person who was active in the community and began a 30-year career in real estate with Dilbeck Real Estate La Cañada/Flintridge in 1990.

She often said she “loved making people’s dreams come true” and quoted Freud: “The two most important things in life are work and love. If you’re lucky enough to love your work, the results are good.”

Although Judy was serious about business, she also was fun. She had a great love of the ’60s and ’70s rock music and kept the radio tuned to vintage rock and roll. She enjoyed keeping up with friends from that era and assisted in planning the reunions for the John Marshall High School Class of ’65, working on every detail to ensure a memorable event.

Judy also loved the holidays when each year she would bake hundreds of cookies with her son Bryan, including peanut butter and chocolate chip, and her famous peanut brittle. Even the Union 76 gas station owner at the corner of Foothill and Descanso Drive received a bag of sweets.

Judy leaves many loving family members who will mourn her passing including her son Bryan Morey (La Crescenta); sisters Dee Anne Butcher (Santa Rosa) and Nancy Carnes (Kingwood, Texas); and niece and nephews Lisa Carnes Dempsey, John Carnes, Ron Butcher, Daniel Butcher and wife Sara, and Dean Butcher, as well as great-nieces and nephews.

Judy is preceded in death by her son Gary Michael Morey and former husband Stephen Gary Morey.

A memorial gathering will be held at the Old North Church at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills at 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 5. A private gathering for the family will follow.
