Hanne Ward, 74, of La Cañada, passed away July 20 with her family by her side. Born in Søborg Denmark, Hanne and her family immigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1951, and then to Altadena in 1955. They ultimately settled in La Cañada in 1966.
Hanne graduated from John Muir High School and later received her cosmetology and real estate licenses. In 1993, Hanne moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho where she bought commercial property and ran several small businesses, including the popular Hanne’s Hayden Lake Espresso Hut. Hanne later returned to Southern California to be closer to her family.
She treasured the many longtime friendships she developed over the years and especially enjoyed watching her family grow up around her. Those close to her will always remember her warm smile and her laugh, especially during the holidays, when she would find delight in creating enchantment for her grandchildren.
Hanne is survived by two daughters: Heidi (Bryan) Crowder and Michelle (Eric Ganz) Ward; five grandchildren: Taylor, Dane, Paige, Charlotte, and Soren; brother John Petersen; sister Margit (Chuck) Arrobio; nephew Spencer (Nichole) Kirkpatrick; niece Pia Arrobio. She was preceded in death by her parents Karoline and Orla Petersen.
A memorial will be held on Thursday, Aug. 24 at 2 p.m. at Oakmont Country Club, 3100 Country Club Drive in Glendale. Donations can be made in her name to the Pasadena Humane Society.
