Eileen Yvette Sauer

1929 – 2012
Eileen Yvette (Holtan) Sauer, a resident of the Crescenta Valley for 55 years, passed away at her home Wednesday morning after a long period of ill health and  hospitilizations. Carl Sauer, her dedicated husband of 57 years, was with her at the time of her death and was at her side throughout her several hospitalizations.

Eileen is survived by her daughters Vicki Sauer of Salinas, Karen Jean Ductor of Camarillo, and her grandchildren Katrina Sauer, Corinna Ductor and Samuel Ductor. Additionally, she is survived by her birth family members in Wisconsin, sisters Gloria Foley and Suzanne Ross, and her brother Robert Holtan.

Born March 9, 1929 in Milwaukee, Wisc., Eileen survived the Depression years a cheerful, mischievious and impetuous young lady. She moved to California in 1952 and made life-long friends while staying at the YWCA. She met Carl, married and raised four children in the Crescenta Valley. Her friends and family were her life.

Eileen experienced sorrow in her adult years. She lost two children to untimely death. With her husband, Eileen raised grandaughter Katrina in their later years.

A practitioner of yoga with her MS group, an avid collector of North American Indian artifacts, a volunteer at Children’s Hospital, a dedicated supporter of various charities throughout the Los Angeles area, and a spunky conversationalist, Eileen will be sorely missed by friends and family alike.

Per her wishes, there will be no services. She will be cremated and her ashes will be scattered in the same place where the ashes of her deceased son William Sauer were scattered.
