Stanley Birchall died on the morning of July 29 in the Sepulveda VA Medical Center due to liver complications. He was 74.

Stan was a true valley guy. He was raised in La Cañada with his brother Don and sister Nancy and, in his later years, bought a house in Tujunga.

Stan was a Vietnam veteran having served a two-year stint in the Army where he was with the 101^st Airborne Division. While in service, he was awarded the Bronze Star for “meritorious achievement in ground operations against hostile forces.” Though recognized for his heroic work, he rarely mentioned his years of service in the Army.

He worked at Avril’s TV in Montrose for some time before meeting Steve Goldsworthy. In the 1970s Stan and Steve formed S&S Electronics, specializing in the repair of various types of electronic equipment. In fact, at the time of his death Stan’s house in Tujunga had several repaired antique radios in it.

When Steve started Crescenta Valley Cable in 1982, Stan came aboard and was Steve’s right hand man. He programmed cable boxes and “ran the board” for the company’s radio station. He stayed with Crescenta Valley Cable until the company was sold in 1990.

Stan loved music – as long as it was Elvis Presley. He could quote iconic facts of “the king” and one Halloween even dressed as his idol.

A car aficionado, Stan bought and restored classic cars. When he died he owned four, including a much-envied wagon that was used in films. He was active in the Early Rodders, working the soundboard at many of its functions, and was a driver in the annual 9/11 remembrance motorcade.

Stan Birchall was laid to rest next to his parents and sister Nancy at Glen Haven Cemetery. He is survived by his brother Don and niece Janet.
