Feb. 1, 1920 – July 28, 2012
James Kenneth Glynn, Sr., 92, passed away on July 28 at his home in La Crescenta. Born Feb. 1, 1920 in LaSalle, Ill., he was a devoted husband of Theresa, father to Kathryn, James, Jr., Patrick, Kevin, daughter-in-law June and grandfather of Shelby and Keiran.
James worked at the Westclox Clock Co. in Peru, Ill. for many years during which time he also served in the U.S. Army in WWII. While serving in the Army he underwent intense jungle combat training and was preparing for the invasion of Japan when the war ended.
James married the love of his life Theresa in June of 1949. In the late 1950s James moved the family to San Francisco where he worked as a city bus driver. The family moved to La Crescenta in 1961 where James worked as a Helmsman for Helms Bakery Company and later as a warehouseman for the Fedco membership department store before retiring.
Always the optimist, James took on everything life could throw at him with grace, humor and style. James and Theresa welcomed everyone who came to their home and their Sunday night dinners were legendary.
James was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Theresa, his sister Rosemary, and brothers Edward and Dunne. He is survived by his brother Emmett, one daughter, three sons and two grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church on Aug. 6. Interment was at San Fernando Mission Cemetery.
