Patricia Ryburn was born on Feb. 9, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan to Ralph and Erma Benninger. She passed away to her eternal home on Aug. 18 at the age of 95. A memorial service was held on Sept. 9.
Pat graduated from Grossmont Union High School in San Diego and attended Sierra College in Redlands. The bombing of Pearl Harbor occurred in her freshman year of high school. D-Day was in June of her senior year.
At the end of the war Pat met her husband-to-be, Walter B. Ryburn, at Mission Beach in San Diego. They were married for 64 years. Walt was an insurance broker and active in the Crecenta-Cañada Lions Club, as well as Gideons. They moved to La Cañada where their children were raised in the local schools.
During this time, Pat began her 24-year career selling advertising for the La Cañada Valley Sun. She was well-known in the area for her professionalism and personal interest in her merchants.
The family later moved to La Crescenta where they were very involved at the Baptist church. Her faith in Christ was an important part of her life. She taught 5-year-old Sunday school as well as helped sponsor youth and college groups with Walt. Post-retirement Pat was a member of the La Cañada Thursday Club managing property rentals.
Pat was known for her spunkiness, her warmth and hospitable nature. She had a welcoming home and a garden full of flowers.
People were important to Pat. She drew people close and considered them like family.
Pat leaves behind three children: Bill Ryburn (Susan) of La Crescenta, Barb Langeloh (Rick) of Covina, and Bob Ryburn (Shari) of Mukilteo, Washington. She also leaves six grandchildren and eight grandchildren who loved her dearly.
