On Sunday morning, a fatal accident occurred on the southbound I5 Golden State Freeway just north of the Balboa Boulevard exit at 11:08 a.m. resulting in the death of a Crescenta Valley High School graduate.

Matt Fielding, 25, from La Crescenta was traveling southbound. A BMW was also traveling southbound in lane six when Matt’s motorcycle and the vehicle collided. Matt was ejected from his motorcycle, landing on the southbound truck lane, according to Sgt. Emmons, California Highway Patrol. Matt was pronounced dead at the scene; the driver and passenger of the BMW reported no injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.

Matt had served in the Navy and was part of the CVHS Class of 2011. He has family and many friends in the area.
