Nov. 21, 1929 – Aug. 21, 2022
Gertrude (Trudy) Lutherine Lucey was born Nov. 21, 1929 in Fargo, North Dakota. She was the eighth child born to Reverend August Hoeger and Amelia Hoeger. Surrounded by family, God called her home at the age of 92 on Aug. 21 in La Crescenta.
Trudy grew up in Fargo and attended Moorhead Minnesota State Teacher’s College. Trudy moved permanently to Glendale in 1951 and worked various positions in teaching and childcare. She served as the head teacher at the Glendale Child Development Center in La Crescenta from 1971 to 1982 and as the director of the La Crescenta Presbyterian – Center for Children from 1991 to 1997. She was a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church from 1951 to 1971 and La Crescenta Baptist Church from 1971 until the rest of her life. She was an active member of P.E.O.
Trudy was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and a good friend. Her biggest joy was spending time with her family and friends. She loved attending church and going to Taco Tuesday with her friends. Her presence and sense of humor will be missed beyond measure by all of those who loved her.
Trudy was preceded in death by her husband John Lucey. She is survived by two daughters, five grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Her memorial service will be held on Sunday, Oct. 2 at La Crescenta Presbyterian Church, 2902 Montrose Ave, at 2 p.m., with celebration of life reception to follow in the church hall. All who knew Trudy are welcome to join and celebrate her life.
