Janet Hall Mauk

Nov. 27, 1930 – Oct. 2, 2018

Janet Teya Hall was born on Thanksgiving Day in 1930 to parents Earl and Stella Hall. It was fitting that she arrived on a holiday that celebrates faith, family and food prepared with skill and love, because those three things remained important to her for the rest of her life. She grew up in Glendale and attended Glendale High School until her family moved to the east coast, where she graduated from Princeton High School and then Hood College.

Following graduation she returned to California and met and married Gene Mauk, the love of her life.

Janet made lifelong friends through volunteer and professional involvement with the Glendale Unified School District, where she was able to combine her commitment to education and to her four children. She served in many capacities in the PTA, including president at Valley View Elementary School. She went on to work for many years as a library assistant at Clark and Rosemont.

Janet loved classical music, playing cello throughout school and regularly attending LA Philharmonic concerts later in life. She loved all animals, especially the family Labrador retrievers.

She was an active member of the La Crescenta Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years, serving as a deacon and singing in the choir for most of that time.

Highlights of the travel and adventure she enjoyed with Gene include climbing Mt. Whitney, hot-air ballooning in Africa, viewing the terracotta army in China, and observing solar eclipses around the globe.

Janet is survived by husband Gene; daughter Cynthia (Jerry); sons Steve, Rob, and John (Mary); grandchildren Ashley, Daniel, Lauren, Trevor, and Riley; and four great-grandchildren, all of whom miss her dearly.

The family is planning a private celebration of her life.
