Frances “Jean” Maluccio, 81, passed away in her La Crescenta home after a long illness, her family by her side, on Wednesday, Oct. 12.
Born Oct. 6, 1941 in Los Angeles to Jean and Kenneth Kjose, she was raised in Temple City. On June 20, 1964 Jean married Michael Maluccio. They moved to La Crescenta in 1967 with their two children, Julie and Michael.
In 1959, she went to work for Pacific Bell, then The Examiner Newspaper until 1965 and Verdugo Hills Bowl from 1977 to 1987. She was also a business owner and operated the Shenanigans restaurant in Glendale from 1987 to 1990 and the Rocking Horse Boutique in La Crescenta from 1991 to 1995.
She was an avid volunteer. Jean supported and was involved in many local organizations including Verdugo Hills Hospital, local PTAs, Verdugo Hills Council Boy Scouts Silent Auction, Glendale Memorial Hospital Days of Wine & Roses, Glendale Healthy Kids, CVCAN, CV Fireworks, CV Fire Safe Council, Firehouse Teen Center, Mary Pinola Foundation, Prom Plus, Relay for Life, Glendale Police Dept./Montrose Station, La Crescenta Woman’s Club and American Legion Post 288. She was coach for junior bowlers at Verdugo Hills Bowl.
For 30 years Jean was deeply involved in the CV Chamber of Commerce and enjoyed planning community events and mixers promoting local businesses.
She loved her La Crescenta community, cooking, gardening and spending time with her family and pets.
She is survived by her stepmother Vilma Lawson; siblings Lou Kjose (Judy), Karen Nicholas (Karl) and Michael DeNardo (Janine); children Julie Dowse and Michael Maluccio; daughter-in-law Tina Maluccio; grandchildren Dana Dowse, Allison Dowse and Alix Maluccio; and many nephews and nieces across the country.
She was preceded in death by her loyal canine companion Roxy.
A celebration of life is planned for the evening of Dec. 7 at the Oakmont Country Club in Glendale.
