John Robert Halcomb, 76, of Glendale passed away on Sept. 15. He was born on Oct. 19, 1946 in Chula Vista, California.
John had a fulfilling career as an aeronautical engineer working for Northrop Corporation, Hughes Helicopter Corp. and MacNeal/Schwendler Corp. He was known for his expertise and dedication in his field.
John is survived by his loving wife Peggy; his son John C. Halcomb and his daughter-in-law Linda Halcomb. He is also survived by his sister Kathy Arning and her husband Al Arning; and his sister-in-law Toni Halcomb. John had several nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents Bob and Hazel Halcomb, his brother Gary Halcomb, and his son Stephen Daniel Halcomb.
John attended Robert E. Lee High School in San Antonio, Texas and later pursued higher education at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo.
Outside of his professional life, John had a passion for outdoor activities. He enjoyed climbing, hiking, camping and nurturing bonsai trees. He also had a love for reading and expanding his knowledge.
John found solace and community in his faith. He worshipped at Calvary Baptist Church in Gardenia as well as at La Crescenta First Baptist Church in La Crescenta.
A ceremony to celebrate John’s life will be held at Highlands Church, 4441 La Crescenta Ave. on Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. A reception will follow the service.
Contributions in John’s memory can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Crippen Mortuary in La Crescenta is assisting the family with arrangements with Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale.
John Robert Halcomb will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. May his soul rest in peace.
