Tommy “Tom” Urquidez passed away peacefully on Nov. 7 in Southern California Hospital, Hollywood surrounded by his family. His heart is now calm.
Born in Glendale, he resided in La Crescenta. He was the seventh generation grandson of Don Jose Verdugo and lived on a parcel of the original rancho granted to his grandfather, Frank Urquidez, from Teodoro Verdugo where the Urquidez farm was located and where Urquidez Avenue is today.
He was an avid Disney fan and Civil War re-enactor and volunteer at the Disney Barn under the Carolwood Foundation located in Griffith Park.
He attended Hoover High School and Glendale Community College. He worked at and retired from Whole Foods Market in Glendale after starting there as a clerk when it was Mrs. Gooch’s Market.
The funeral will be on Nov. 30 at 10 a.m. at the Grandview Cemetery, Glendale with the reception following at the Disney Barn. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Carolwood Foundation, P.O. Box 2208, Toluca Lake, CA 91610. Please denote on the check or in writing that it is in memory of Tom.
His family and friends are heartbroken. He will be missed but we know he will always be with us. He is now with Nana and Dad and the rest of the family members under the family grape arbor having fun and watching over us.
