Arthur “Art” Edwards passed away peacefully in his room at Windsor Manor in Glendale while under hospice care from complications of a recent stroke. Art was a former math teacher at Anderson Clark Junior High in La Crescenta from 1956-83 (when Clark was closed) and retired in 1986 from Toll Junior High in Glendale.
A native Californian, Art graduated from Eagle Rock High School in 1944 and was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served in the Pacific Front until 1946.
After graduating from Occidental College in 1951 on the GI Bill, Art began his teaching career in Los Banos, California and then returned to the Southland where he was hired by GUSD in 1956.
He was active in the GTA, CTA and NEA, and served in several leadership positions. Art was an avid scouter and Boy Scout troop leader in the Verdugo Hills Council for many years. He loved reading, photography, various forms of crafts, worldwide traveling, and service to his church.
The oldest of five brothers, Art is survived by Fr. Philip (Andrew) of Valyermo, California, Alexander of Glendale, (Alex’s twin brother, Alan, died in 1995), and Neil of Pacific Grove, California.
A celebration of Art’s life will be held on Nov. 25 at 10:30 a.m. at Eagle Rock Presbyterian Church, 4848 Eagle Rock Blvd, LA. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked any donations to be made to Eagle Rock United Presbyterian Church.
