Margaret Emma (“Emmy”) Hendershot Spear passed away Dec. 15 at the age of 91. A longtime local resident, Margaret lived for 60 years in Sunland. She returned part time to college, entered the nursing program at Valley College, and became a registered nurse at the age of 50. She then worked at Verdugo Hills Hospital for 15 years as an RN and night supervisor.
Born Jan. 10, 1921 in Madera County, Calif. to Nella Lorena Moody Hendershot and Elwood Vossbinder Hendershot, Margaret was the youngest of four children. She is predeceased by her siblings: Alice Elizabeth Reeder, Mona Louise Boygle and Richard Elwood Hendershot.
Margaret was married in 1942 to Lt. Col. Robert Langdon Spear, U.S. Army Air Corps, USAF, (deceased 1952). She is survived by their three daughters: Ann Hoffner, Betsy Spear and Robin Ashley; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by each and every one of them.
Service will be held Friday, Dec. 21 at 11 a.m. at Crippen Mortuary Chapel, followed with an internment at Forest Lawn Glendale.
