He also enjoyed playing the trumpet in the Renaissance Faire for a number of years. He was also a very active person and enjoyed riding his motorcycle, hiking, camping and fishing.

When he was young, he built a geyser in his backyard after being inspired by those that he saw on a trip to Yellowstone and he once rode his motorcycle with his best friend all the way to Canada! Dennis and Laurie also spent a number of years volunteering with the La Cañada Flintridge Tournament of Roses Assn. and Dennis was the head of construction for the 1994 float; he also got to drive the float in the Rose Parade that year.

When undergoing treatments for cancer in 2016, Dennis was asked what he valued most in life. Above all else, he valued his family, especially his wife and daughter.
