First Church of Christ, Scientist, invites the community to join their customary Wednesday evening prayer and testimony meeting on Jan. 23 at 8 p.m. as part of the special international Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, which begins Jan. 18 and continues until Jan. 25.
Many La Cañada Flintridge Christian churches are also observing this special week of prayer with individual celebrations and joint prayer meetings. The week’s daily services and prayers are part of the larger annual project of the World Council of Churches. This year, the Student Christian Movement of India developed the study guide.
Dean Boesen, first reader of the local Christian Science church, will include verses from the Scripture including Ruth 4:13-18, the account of Ruth and Boaz, and Psalm 113, God the helper of the needy. Readings will also include related citations on the subject from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, the founder of the Christian Science church.
First Church’s members have invited the community to join in this prayer for unity. The church is at 600 Foothill Blvd. in La Cañada at Woodleigh Lane. There is ample free parking behind the church, and childcare for those too young to attend the service.
Further information is available on the church’s web site cslcf.org.
