NOTES & NODS

Public Procession on Palm Sunday

St. George’s Episcopal Church in La Cañada is organizing a public procession titled The Way of Our Cross, for Sunday, March 20 at 12:30 p.m. People are asked to bring palms to carry along the route that will head down Foothill Boulevard starting in front of the Lutheran Church of the Foothills (1700 Foothill Blvd.) and ending at St. George’s Church, 808 Foothill Blvd, La Cañada Flintridge.

The Way of Our Cross is based on Jesus’ challenge to take up our cross. Those participating will follow the cross down Foothill making six stops along the way to examine six fundamental teachings of Jesus, and how we may or may not fully participate.

Invitations have been sent out to local congregations in hopes that many people will take part in the event that was designed as a thoughtful and contemplative means to embrace Holy Week prior to Easter Sunday. People are asked to bring palms and to wear comfortable clothing as well as walking shoes. Depending on the weather, water might also be necessary.

For questions, contact The Rev. Anthony Keller at (818) 790-3323 or by email at office@saintglc.org.

Observe Palm Sunday with historical and theological integrity. Be a part of a procession modeling Jesus’ march into Jerusalem, expressing God’s truth to worldly powers. This year’s focus is on the plight of the immigrant, a Biblical theme that rings loud and true today. “Peace Without Borders: Welcoming the Refugee” is a family-friendly walk on March 20 at 3 p.m. at the Reformation Church on 570 Orange Grove Blvd. in Pasadena.
