“Amazing grace, how sweet the sound.” “Great is thy faithfulness; morning by morning new mercies I see.” “Just a closer walk with thee; grant it, Jesus, is my plea.”
The beloved lyrics and music have been sung in churches down through the ages, and the La Cañada Presbyterian Church will celebrate these hymns and many others in an Ovations Concert and recording event on Sunday, March 27 at 4 p.m.
“Great Hymns of the Church,” directed by Jack Lantz, LCPC’s director of music and worship arts, will feature the LCPC Chancel Choir and Orchestra. The audience will be invited to sing along on four of the classic hymns. A live recording of the entire concert will be made and each person holding a paid ticket will later receive a free, professionally packaged CD of the performance.
The 50-voice choir and 40-piece orchestra will also present a variety of other hymns including John Rutter’s “For the Beauty of the Earth” and Gilbert Martin’s “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross,” as well as “Holy, Holy, Holy,” “This Little Light of Mine,” “Just a Closer Walk With Thee,” “When the Saints Go Marching In,” “I Need They Every Hour” and many others.
Additional CDs of the concert will be available for purchase in time for Christmas gift-giving.
