LDS Hosting Celebration of Easter
“Faith, Hope and the Resurrection of Jesus Christ: A Celebration of Easter” is being given by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, La Crescenta Stake, on Saturday, April 16 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday, April 17 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the LDS Church in Glendale. It is free and open to the public.
The Celebration features a special exhibition of original works of art interpreting the events and meaning of the first Easter season. These works are created primarily by local artisans and include expressions in every media. The exhibition will be on display both Saturday and Sunday evenings.
In addition to this major art exhibition, on Saturday evening several inspirational choral and instrumental numbers will be performed by a variety of local musicians and high school, community and church choirs. Some of these groups are the Crescenta Valley High School Charismatics, the Korean Latter-day Saint Chorus, a Filipino choir, and a string quartet.
The Celebration will continue on Sunday with a special concert given by the Southern California Mormon Choir. Since its formation in 1953, the choir has performed nationally and internationally, giving concerts that include classical, sacred, folk, patriotic and popular choral music. It is currently under the direction of Jan Bills, longtime Glendale resident.
Sunday’s presentation will also include a special Easter address to be given by Donald P. Tenney focusing on faith, hope and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Tenney is a member emeritus of one of the leading councils of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Refreshments will be served at both Saturday and Sunday events. “Faith, Hope and the Resurrection of Jesus Christ: A Celebration of Easter” is free and open to public. For more information contact Robin Johnson, rllj@yahoo.com, (818) 458-9525.
