Sue’s Garden received a donation of over $1800 from funds raised during the Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge’s recent food drive. Sue’s Garden provides food and hygiene items to local families who need assistance during transitional times. Distributions happen twice a month at the Highlands Church in La Crescenta.
“We are so excited to receive this donation,” said Debra Coffeen, president of Sue’s Garden. “We will be using the money to purchase additional equipment, shop for perishable items before distributions and buy an additional fridge to store the food.”
The non-perishable food collected by the Community Center during its Thanksgiving Run and Food Drive was distributed to over 200 families in need by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Dept. – Crescenta Valley Station before the holiday season. The cash donations being given to Sue’s Garden were received on the run registration website.
“Our community really went above and beyond to help families experiencing food insecurity in our region,” said Betsy Ferguson, executive director of the Community Center. “We are thrilled to contribute to the meaningful work being done by Sue’s Garden.”
Sue’s Garden was started in 2008 by Rebecca Fletcher and is run entirely by volunteers. For more information on how to help, or to refer families in need, contact suesgardenfbclc@gmail.com or call (818) 249-5832.
