Lauren Nettels, an eighth grade student at St. Bede Elementary School in La Cañada Flintridge, was the recent recipient of the Italian Catholic Federation Distinguished Service Award. Mark Mannarelli, ICF Branch 374 president, presented the award to her at the group’s monthly meeting. The award was presented at the Parish Center of St. Bede the Venerable Roman Catholic Church. Lauren received the award as her parents and her brother Andrew, a previous award winner, looked on.

The young St. Bede student presented a long record of accomplishments to earn the award. Among her accomplishments was earning the Girl Scout Silver Award and the Marian Medal, and working with the Safe House for Unwed Mothers, the Brothers’ Helpers, Special Olympics, Adopt a Family and participating in school’s choir.
