NOTES & NODS

Lutheran Church to Host Events
Lutheran Church in the Foothills is keeping the summer fun going with its ongoing Wednesday Summer Fun and Fellowship programming. The church is inviting the community to join them for a special evening at Glendale’s Verdugo Park on Wednesday, July 31. Attendees are encouraged to arrive at 6 p.m., bring their own picnic dinner and enjoy the pre-concert atmosphere.

The main event, a concert featuring The Dreamboats, a popular ’50s and ’60s pop/rock group, begins at 7 p.m. Verdugo Park is located at 1621 Canada Blvd.

LCIF is also continuing its annual backpack drive to support local children in need. The church is collecting new backpacks to be filled with essential school supplies for distribution this fall. To ensure that the backpacks are stocked with the most necessary items, LCIF is encouraging community members to keep an eye out for back-to-school sales. A comprehensive list of needed supplies will be available on the church’s website in the coming weeks. Donations of new backpacks can be dropped off at LCIF during Sunday worship services at 10 a.m. with Pastor Rick Hall or at the church office Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Visit lcifoothills.org for information on small group gatherings and opportunities to serve. For more information or to request/offer help, email office@lcifoothills.org or call (818) 790-1951. The church is located at 1700 Foothill Blvd. in La Cañada Flintridge. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Vacation Bible School at Mt. Olive

Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 3561 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta, will be hosting its 2024 Vacation Bible School (VBS) for K-sixth grade children over the week of Aug. 5-9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. It will be packed full of fun, spiritual growth and memories. Joyful music, worship and games will introduce the “Moving Mountains” theme centered on Psalm 121. Age-based Bible studies will help VBS participants grow in their understanding of God and community. Lessons learned and friends made will reach way beyond this one week of day camp at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church!

The cost is $20 for the entire week for one child, or $15 each for two or more children. Call (818) 248-4253 or email office@molc.org to register by Aug. 2.

Mt. Olive Offers Community Breakfast Bible Study

Mt. Olive Lutheran Church reminds the public that all are invited to its monthly breakfast Bible study at Panera Bread Restaurant, 990 Town Center Dr., Suite A in La Cañada on the third Saturday of each month at 8:30 a.m. The Book of Ephesians is currently being studied.

All are invited.

Walk and Word

Walk and Word participants will meet in the parking lot of Deukmejian Wilderness Park, 3429 Markridge Road in La Crescenta/Glendale at 8 a.m. on July 28. Participants will walk for the first hour and then gather to read a selection of Scripture. About a half hour will be spent journaling about what was read and then there will be conversation, sharing thoughts.

Participants are asked to bring something to write with, anything wanted to eat or drink, and a chair to use for the writing part of the morning. Because people will be outdoors and social distancing will be practiced, masks will be optional.

Those with questions can email Jeanne at jnlavieri@earthlink.net.

All are welcome. If the hike is too strenuous, there are level paths at the park. There are ramps from the parking lot to the field where the group gathers after the hike.
