NOTES & NODS

Lutheran Church to Host Events
Lutheran Church in the Foothills is inviting the community to enjoy a night under the stars with a campfire and s’mores on Wednesday, Aug. 6. As part of its ongoing Wednesday Summer Fun program, the event will feature marshmallow roasting and a sing-along of classic camp songs. For location and time details, please contact the church office at (818) 790-1951.

Continuing the summer festivities, LCIF will host a potluck on Sunday, Aug. 18 at 11:15 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. The gathering will follow the church’s worship service with Pastor Rick Hall, which begins at 10 a.m. All are welcome to bring a dish to share and enjoy fellowship with the congregation. To ensure a variety of delicious options, attendees can choose to bring their favorite dish or follow a suggested guideline: those with last names beginning with A-F can bring dessert, G-P can contribute a salad or side dish, and Q-Z can provide an entrée or hearty side.

In addition, LCIF invites anyone with a love of singing to participate in its summer choir. Those interested should meet at 9:15 a.m. in the church sanctuary to learn the song of the day. LCIF’s Anthem Chorale will return on Sunday, Sept. 22.

Visit lcifoothills.org for information on small group gatherings and opportunities to serve. For more information or to request/offer help, email office@lcifoothills.org or call (818) 790-1951. The church is located at 1700 Foothill Blvd. in La Cañada Flintridge. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Vacation Bible School at Mt. Olive

Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 3561 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta, will be hosting its 2024 Vacation Bible School (VBS) for K-sixth grade children over the week of Aug. 5-9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. It will be packed full of fun, spiritual growth and memories. Joyful music, worship and games will introduce the “Moving Mountains” theme centered on Psalm 121. Age-based Bible studies will help VBS participants grow in their understanding of God and community. Lessons learned and friends made will reach way beyond this one week of day camp at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church!

The cost is $20 for the entire week for one child, or $15 each for two or more children. Call (818) 248-4253 or email office@molc.org to register by Aug. 2.

Mt. Olive Offers Community Breakfast Bible Study

Mt. Olive Lutheran Church reminds the public that all are invited to its monthly breakfast Bible study at Panera Bread Restaurant, 990 Town Center Dr., Suite A in La Cañada on the third Saturday of each month at 8:30 a.m. The Book of Ephesians is currently being studied.

All are invited.

Walk and Word

Walk and Word participants will meet in the parking lot of Deukmejian Wilderness Park, 3429 Markridge Road in La Crescenta/Glendale at 8 a.m. on Aug. 11, 18 & 25. Participants will walk for the first hour and then gather to read a selection of Scripture. About a half hour will be spent journaling about what was read and then there will be conversation, sharing thoughts.

Participants are asked to bring something to write with, anything wanted to eat or drink, and a chair to use for the writing part of the morning. Because people will be outdoors and social distancing will be practiced, masks will be optional.

Those with questions can email Jeanne at jnlavieri@earthlink.net.

All are welcome. If the hike is too strenuous, there are level paths at the park. There are ramps from the parking lot to the field where the group gathers after the hike.
