NOTES & NODS

Lutheran Church to Host Events
Lutheran Church in the Foothills (LCIF) invites the community on Sunday, Sept. 8 to help assemble 100 school kits for children. This annual event at LCIF will be held in the church’s Fellowship Hall following the 10 a.m. worship service led by Pastor Rick Hall. The kits will be packed with essential school supplies donated by both church and local community members. Once completed, the school kits will be distributed to children in need, providing them with the tools they need to succeed in their education.

In addition to the school kit assembly, LCIF is also launching an early toy drive to spread holiday cheer. Although December is still a few months away, the church is starting early to ensure they can bring joy to as many children as possible during the festive season. For the month of September, the focus will be on collecting board games with plans to expand the list of desired toys in the coming months. Donations can be dropped off at the church during Sunday worship or at the church office during the week. An Amazon Wish List has been created for those wishing to donate online.

Visit lcifoothills.org for event details, including small group gatherings and opportunities to serve.

For more information or to request/offer help, email office@lcifoothills.org or call (818) 790-1951. The church is located at 1700 Foothill Blvd. in La Cañada Flintridge. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday.

UUCVH Hosting Water Ceremony

Unitarian Universalist Church of the Verdugo Hills will host its annual water ceremony on Sunday, Sept. 8 at 10:30 a.m. During its annual ingathering service UUCVH members and friends will share water and stories from summer travels and meaningful places.

A ritual unique to Unitarian Universalism, the waters – symbolic of the connections we have with each other and originating from many different sources – are intermingled and used to nourish the growth of our church gardens. It is a celebration of being together at the beginning of a new church year. UUCVH welcomes members of the broader community to participate in the tradition.

To join via Zoom or to attend in person, visit the UUCVH website to learn more: https://www.uuverdugo.org/.

Participants will walk for the first hour and then gather to read a selection of Scripture.
