Movie Fun at Shadow Hills Presbyterian Church

Shadow Hills Presbyterian Church host free Friday night movies! Popcorn, soda and hot dogs will be available for sale.

Sunday’s sermons will relate back to each night’s film. A separate film/activity will be offered to children for PG-13 and R rated films.

The following films will be shown at 6:30 p.m.: Sept. 15: “Finding Dory,” PG; Sept. 22: “Invictus,” PG-13; Oct. 6: “Hacksaw Ridge,” R.

Free Classes for Adults and Kids at La Crescenta Presbyterian

The community is invited to attend free classes for adults and children on Wednesday evenings at La Crescenta Presbyterian Church. The fall lineup includes: “More Like Jesus: Conversations on Core Issues of Faith,” led by Pastor Andy Wilson; “Wisdom for Life,” a study of Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Job and Song of Solomon, led by Lee Cook; and “Creative Bible Journaling,” a fun group that creates art pieces inspired by faith, led by Michelle Bouse.

Special programs are available for children from infants through eighth grade. Also two choirs that rehearse on Wednesdays welcome new participants. The PEAK (Praise and Education for Adults and Kids) programs, which run from 6:30-8 p.m. each Wednesday, are free.

Come early and feed the family! A nutritious, delicious and affordable meal ($3 for adults and $2 for kids) is served from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Getting Ready for Empty Bowls

The 10th Annual Empty Bowls event is on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at CV United Methodist Church. For a $20 donation, local chefs will donate delicious soup to fill a ceramic bowl of the diner’s choice. Guests can come and choose their favorite bowl, fill it with soup and enjoy the music and good company with friends and neighbors. The $20 donation will go towards feeding the hungry in Tujunga and Pasadena. The empty bowl then can be taken home as a reminder that there are people in the world who do not have enough to eat.

World Day of Prayer

World Day of Prayer will be observed today, Thursday, Sept. 14, at the Center for Spiritual Living-La Crescenta. It will be hosted by the Unity Church, which rents the CSL-LC facilities. Services will be led by Rev. Jeri Linn.

Silent Unity is a 24-hour program of prayer when those who would like others to pray for them can call and put in a request. According to the Unity website, Silent Unity has been offering prayer for others for 125 years, servicing people of faiths from all over the world.

For 24 years, the Unity has invited the world to pray and each year a theme is chosen to focus on. This year is, “Together we affirm: I am peace in the midst of all matters.”

This Week at LCIF

Everyone is invited to join Lutheran Church in the Foothills at its 10 a.m. worship service on Sunday, Sept. 17. Pastor Scott Peterson will preach a sermon entitled “Gift of Forgiveness.”

Coffee and donuts will be in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the service.
