Jazz concert coming to Unity

Unity Church of the Valley is hosting its annual Jazz Benefit Concert on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. The concert features vocalist Brenna Whitaker and other outstanding performers. Brenna has performed with Michael Buble and is an exceptional new talent in the L.A. area.

First Baptist Church extends concert

The First Baptist Church at La Crescenta cordially invites the public to the presentation by the California Baptist University School of Music of the University Choir and Orchestra, the premier performance group of the School of Music. The University Choir and Orchestra is led by nationally acclaimed conductor Dr. Gary Bonner, dean of the School of Music. Over 150 singers and instrumentalists perform nearly 50 annual concerts in the local area and on tour as they personify Dr. Bonner’s philosophy of “A Higher Standard.”

Race to Nowhere screening at LCPC

La Cañada Presbyterian Church is screening “Race to Nowhere,” an award-winning documentary that tells the stories of young people pushed to the brink, burned-out educators, and deeply frustrated parents. The film spotlights the intersection of health and education. It will be shown tonight, Thursday, Oct. 14 at 7:30 p.m.

The cost of the screening is $10 per person in advance, $15 at the door. Register at http://rtnlacanada.eventbrite.com/ (Note: The screening starts at 7:30 p.m., not 7:00 p.m. like the ticketing site states). A portion of the proceeds will benefit LCPC’s Parent Education program.

LCPC announces return of Wednesday Night PEAK classes

La Crescenta Presbyterian Church continues its Wednesday night PEAK classes and dinner. PEAK stands for Praise, Education for Adults and Kids. Dinner is from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. and classes run from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Classes are available for children age 6 months through junior high and also for adults. This fall there will be two classes offered for adults: “Fuel,” led by Lee Cook, will focus on finding strength through the journey of faith. Local marriage and family therapist Dr. Rick Lyon will lead the other class, ”We Are All Addicted – Stepping Stones into the Kingdom of God.” The class runs through November and will focus on a 12-step program that is based on the beatitudes from the Book of Matthew.

LCPC’s Boggs, Brock & Pratt to stage oldies concert

On Friday, Oct. 22, Janet Boggs, Andrew Pratt and Judy Brock bring “Oldies but Goodies” to La Cañada Presbyterian Church. The show will include music popularized by the Cordettes, Simon and Garfunkel, the Beatles, the Eagles and Crosby, Stills and Nash, among other artists. Boggs, Brock and Pratt will each be featured individually at times, with the others joining in on harmony. The concert is at 8 p.m. Tickets for “Oldies but Goodies” are $15 and are available in advance at the church office or at the door on the night of the performance.

It’s advisable to get tickets early, as Boggs & Brock played to an overflowing house for their last concert at the church.

Lift Up La Crescenta continues

Lift Up La Crescenta continues every second Sunday of the month. Parishioners from St. Luke’s Anglican Church in Glendale, La Crescenta Presbyterian Church and Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in La Crescenta will come together monthly to bathe the Crescenta Valley community in prayer.

All are invited to participate.

MOPS returns to CV

MOPS – Mothers of Preschoolers – Crescenta Valley, serves moms and caregivers with kids age 0-6 years. The new semester starts in October at Open Bible Church on the first and third Thursdays of each month from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The cost is $100 a semester and includes hot breakfast, speakers, crafts and childcare.
