Center Hosts ALIVE Healing Arts Faire

The Center for Spiritual Living-La Crescenta will be the site for ALIVE Healing Arts Faire taking place on Saturday, Nov. 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event features speakers, a sound bath, healing arts practitioners, live music, healthy food, a kid zone and an Artisan Marketplace offering a selection of books, handcrafted jewelry, apparel and more.

Speakers include authors Robert Mack, Carolyn Coleridge and Robert Hanley.

Early Holiday Shopping Opportunity

Early holiday shopping can be done at the 5th Annual Arts & Crafts Fair on Saturday, Nov. 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in La Crescenta. The event will feature Christmas, fall and seasonal handmade and up-cycled goods, jewelry, artwork, quilts, pottery, pillow coverings, water bottle holders, placemats and more. There will also be a sale of gently used decorative and household items. Free parking (in back), free admission and refreshments. 

100% of proceeds will go to Concordia Christian School, Granada Hills’ scholarship fund.

This Week at LCIF

Lutheran Church in the Foothills reminds everyone to “fall back” on Sunday night, Nov. 3 before heading to church. Come at 9 a.m. for a time of education for all ages. Family worship time begins at 10 a.m. Pastor Scott Peterson will lead the service with a message titled “Gathered.” After the service come to the Fellowship Hall to remember and celebrate Gretel Ujfalusy during the time of coffee fellowship. All are invited!

‘Creative Bible Journaling’ Class Open to Community

A free class combining faith, fellowship and the visual arts returns to La Crescenta Presbyterian Church this fall. Creative Bible Journaling will be offered on Wednesday evenings Nov. 6 and Dec. 4 as part of the church’s praise and education for adults and kids (PEAK) program.

Each journaling class centers around a spiritual theme, introduced by an instructor. Participants then create their own artwork to express their faith in a highly personal way. All supplies are provided, and no art experience is required. The class attracts a diverse lot, men and women from age 16 into their 80s.

The free one-hour PEAK classes begin at 6:30 p.m. Come early for a delicious and nutritious meal beginning at 5:45 p.m. Cost for the dinner is $3 for adults and $2 for children sixth grade or younger.

Operation Christmas Child

In November sites in the Crescenta Valley area will be among 5,000 U.S. drop-off locations collecting shoebox gifts for children overseas during Operation Christmas Child’s National Collection Week, Nov. 18-25.

Empty shoeboxes will be filled with toys, school supplies and hygiene items and given to Samaritan’s Purse for delivery. For many of these children, it will be the first gift they have received.

Collections can be made at Community Life Church, 4441 La Crescenta Ave. on Nov. 18 from noon to 2 p.m., Nov. 19-23 from 10 a.m. to noon, Nov. 24 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and noon to 4 p.m. and Nov. 25 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Village Christian Schools, 8930 Village Ave. in Sun Valley from Nov. 18-22 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Nov. 23 from 10 a.m. to noon and Nov. 25 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

 

 

Walk and Word

Spend time Sunday mornings discovering Scripture while hiking Deukmejian Park. Participants meet at 8 a.m. at the parking lot (3429 Markridge Road, La Crescenta) on all but the first Sunday of each month. There will not be a hike on Sunday, Nov. 3.

Hike for an hour, then journal and share for an hour about a selection of Scripture. All are invited who feel drawn to this alternative spiritual activity under the guidance of CV United Methodist Church lay minister Jeanne Lavieri.

For those interested but unable to hike, several picnic tables with wheelchair access are available.
