All Souls Lantern Festival
St. George’s Episcopal Church presents its annual All Souls Lantern Festival from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 2 in the church patio. The event sets aside time for folks to remember people in their lives who have died, and to acknowledge people from the past who have held an important memory in their lives. The service joins the traditions of the ancient Celtic remembrance of All Souls with the Japanese custom of “TOrOnagashi” (floating lanterns). Those who wish to participate may arrive early to bring photos of people they wish to honor so that they can be placed next to lit candles on the lawn. For more information, call (818) 790-3323, or email office@SaintGLC.org.
St. George’s Episcopal Church is located at 808 Foothill Blvd. in La Cañada.
Tuesday Table Talk
On Tuesday, Nov. 6, Bethel Church in Sun Valley will offer a screening of the film “Facing the Giants.” This inspirational drama combines faith and football in the tale of high school coach Grant Taylor, who faces a losing team, a fading marriage and the possibility of being fired, but puts his life in God’s hands and, in doing so, rises above failure to create a winning spirit on the field.
The presentation will be preceded by a potluck supper.
The potluck starts at 6:30 p.m.; the presentation starts at 7:15 p.m. followed by dessert and discussion at about 9:15 p.m.
This is a free event.

The Red Door at St. George’s
St. George’s Episcopal Church in La Cañada formed a new support group called The Red Door: Exploring Spirituality of the 12 Steps. The group meets in the parish hall on the first Tuesday of each month from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. All of the conversations will take place over a light supper.
The Red Door was created to assist those in recovery from addictions to better understand the spiritual relationship towards wholeness, which is inherent in the 12-step program. The Red Door is not about conversion or as a means to recruit new church members, but hopes to tackle questions and doubt in a safe, hospitable atmosphere of mutual support and trust.
