Lutheran Church in the Foothills
Singing is good for the mind, body and spirit according to researchers at the University of Oxford. Choirs, in particular, help forge social bonds quickly. Making music exercises the brain, improves breathing, posture and can even relieve muscle tension. Now these benefits are available to all at Lutheran Church in the Foothills.
The church’s Anthem Chorale performs each Sunday during the 10 a.m. worship service and welcomes anyone in the community wishing to join. Led by music director Mark Anzelon, the choir meets for rehearsals at 9:15 a.m. on Sundays. No prior experience is necessary, just a desire to learn and have fun.
Pastor Rick Hall continues to hold his Thursday prayer breakfasts at the McDonald’s in La Cañada. Grab your breakfast then head to the rear dining area at 9 a.m. on Thursday mornings for food, fellowship and prayer.
LCIF reminds the community of its ongoing food drive at the church. People are encouraged to bring canned goods to the church for those who are hungry, homeless or unemployed/underemployed. Canned goods can be dropped off during Sunday worship or anytime at the church’s office. They will be distributed to the food pantry at Heart of the Canyon Church in Tujunga.

Walk and Word
In November, Walk and Word participants will meet in the parking lot of Deukmejian Wilderness Park, 3429 Markridge Road in La Crescenta/Glendale at 8 a.m. on Nov. 12, 19 & 26. Participants will walk for the first hour and then gather to read a selection of Scripture. About a half hour will be spent journaling about what was read and then there will be conversation, sharing thoughts.
Participants are asked to bring something to write with, anything wanted to eat or drink, and a chair to use for the writing part of the morning. Because people will be outdoors and social distancing will be practiced, masks will be optional.
Those with questions can email Jeanne at jnlavieri@earthlink.net.
All are welcome. If the hike is too strenuous, there are level paths at the park. There are ramps from the parking lot to the field where the group gathers after the hike.
