Four local men, Mark Ying of St. Bede’s and Kerry Erickson, Ferdinand Mata and Mike Williams of Holy Redeemer/St. James recently received the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree at a formal ceremony held in Irvine.
The Fourth Degree, also referred to as the Patriotic Degree, encourages active Catholic citizenship and fosters the spirit of patriotism in members and the community at large. Sir Knight, as Fourth Degree members are called, may wear special regalia and carry a sword to honor Christ and His apostles at special religious and civic events.
The Knights of Columbus is the world’s largest Catholic family fraternal service organization with 1.7 million members. It provides members and their families with volunteer opportunities in service to the Catholic Church, their communities, families and young people.
