This Week at LCIF
All are invited to celebrate Christ the King at Lutheran Church in the Foothills on Sunday, Nov. 24. The education hour for all ages begins at 9 a.m. followed by family worship at 10 a.m. Pastor Scott Peterson will lead the service with a sermon titled “Outside Jerusalem.” After the service, all are invited to the Fellowship Hall for a time of refreshments and conversation.
Advent services will be held Sundays during December at 10 a.m. On Dec. 15, the Anthem Chorale will lead worship with its annual Carols and Anthems service. The Chorale’s famous desserts will be available in the Fellowship Hall following the event. It’s always a fun and tasty way to get ready for Christmas!
The annual candlelight service will be at 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve – it’s a great way to get ready for Christmas Day and all are welcome.

Operation Christmas Child
In November sites in the Crescenta Valley area will be among 5,000 U.S. drop-off locations collecting shoebox gifts for children overseas during Operation Christmas Child’s National Collection Week, Nov. 18-25.
Empty shoeboxes will be filled with toys, school supplies and hygiene items and given to Samaritan’s Purse for delivery. For many of these children, it will be the first gift they have received.
Collections can be made at Community Life Church, 4441 La Crescenta Ave. on Nov. 24 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from noon to 4 p.m. and Nov. 25 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Village Christian Schools, 8930 Village Ave. in Sun Valley on Nov. 25 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Treasure, Crafts and Holiday Sale
Shadow Hills Presbyterian Church will host its annual Treasure, Crafts and Holiday Sale on Saturday, Nov. 23. This event is a fundraiser for the church to support all of its mission projects. The sale will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Early Bird entry is at 7:30 a.m. for a $5 donation.
The handmade gifts, vintage and gently used “good stuff” make excellent teacher, neighbor and hostess gifts. There will be collectables, costume jewelry, china, glassware, etc. … plus lots of gently used and some new Christmas items. The handmade items are made by the Shadow Hills Presbyterian “Church ladies.”

Walk and Word
Spend time Sunday mornings discovering Scripture while hiking Deukmejian Park. Participants meet at 8 a.m. at the parking lot (3429 Markridge Road, La Crescenta) on all but the first Sunday of each month.
Hike for an hour, then journal and share for an hour about a selection of Scripture. All are invited who feel drawn to this alternative spiritual activity under the guidance of CV United Methodist Church lay minister Jeanne Lavieri.
For those interested but unable to hike, several picnic tables with wheelchair access are available.
For more information, contact Lavieri at (818) 383-3137 or email jnlavieri@earthlink.net.
Drive-thru Nativity
Community Christian Church of the Foothills will offer the opportunity to step back in time and experience the first Christmas via its drive-thru nativity. Guests will drive past various scenes of the nativity story with actors portraying Mary and Joseph, the shepherds, the angel and the wise men. At the end of the drive, free coffee, hot chocolate and cookies are available to those who wish to stop by the church’s Coffee House.
This is the 19th year of Community Christian Church offering this free “gift to the community.”
The drive-thru nativity will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights, Dec. 13 and Dec. 14 at Community Christian Church of the Foothills, 10193 Tujunga Canyon Blvd, Tujunga, just north of Foothill Boulevard and next to the post office.
